About the Game
One of the most popular classic video games by Nintendo, Super Mario was created in 1985 based on the Mario Bros. arcade game. The popularity of Super Mario has helped launch one of the most successful franchises in gaming history. Later in the year, it was released in North America for NES or the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Mario was originally known as Jumpman in Donkey Kong, a game released in 1981. He was only renamed Mario in 1982. The character and the games he appeared in have the distinction of being awarded the best-selling video game series of all time.
Designed by chief engineer Gunpei Yokoi and Shigeru Miyamoto, the game is about Italian brothers and plumbers Mario and Luigi who must save Princess Toadstool, later renamed Princess Peach, from King Koopa, later known as Bowser.
